Janelle Wilson, M.A., MFT
Marriage and Family License Number MFC 36267
Licensed since June 22, 2000
Janelle was raised in a Pastor's home and brings a pastor's heart to her counseling practice. Over four years ago, she took on another challenge when God fulfilled her husband's call to the ministry. She loves being the Pastor's wife of a small church near Oakland.
Janelle began her education at Southern State University in Ashland, Oregon, to become an accountant. At the end of her sophomore year, she was called to become a therapist, so she changed majors and moved to California. She feels privileged to have acquired her undergraduate degree in psychology from Bethany Bible College and her masters degree from the University of San Francisco.
Janelle had the pleasure of working for nine years with Advent Group Ministries, a non-profit, non-denominational agency who provides foster family, adolescent recovery, and counseling services to the South Bay area. While at Advent, she supported both the group home and foster family departments by providing therapy for their clients, parents, and families and she counseled clients from the community.
Janelle joined Hope Counseling Center of Silicon Valley in October of 2000 after being licensed earlier in the year, and enjoys working with and learning from the other licensed therapists at Hope. Her goal is to have a long and rewarding career doing what she loves while supporting her clients. Late last year, she completed a 22-hour supervisor training course with an eye towards possibly expanding her career into supporting interns as they pursue their dreams of becoming therapists.
Currently, Janelle enjoys being on the planning committee of the Christian Therapist Fellowship, working to bring opportunities for Christian therapists and interns to network and support each other, as well as learn new information. With a close, therapist friend, she presented a recent training on professional wills and how to create one that meets each therapist's needs. Janelle loves doing seminars and trainings and looks forward to the opportunity to do more public speaking.
Finally, Janelle has attended trainings with Patrick Carnes and Dan Allender and her heart goes out to clients who have experienced the effects of sexual abuse and sexual addiction. She looks forward to learning more specific information about addictions and codependency and how to educate and support those who are trying to find their way through such deeply entrenched behaviors and thoughts.
